Who Dis?

Originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, since 2003 I have been working hard to be a world class designer and have had the privilege to work alongside some of the best talent in the industry. I have been a part of large multi-year projects (Horizon 2: Forbidden West) and ones with tight production deadlines that has less than 1 year of development time (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, Spider-Man: Edge of Time).

My focus over the years has been to be a designer that deeply understand how games are created by every discipline, so that I can have meaningful and insightful conversations with every incredible team member I work alongside.

With my designs I focus on building a strong player-experience base first that works both for team-wide development capabilities and fits within the overarching structure of the game’s creative direction. It’s important to me that player’s have a remarkable high-quality gameplay that keeps them immersed in the fanatic experience, which is driven by a team of highly passionate developers who are excited to create and solve difficult problems together.

When I am in a lead role, my primary concern as a manager is to ensure a healthy collaborative team environment and provide opportunities for professional growth. My job to to mentor those who have a passion for creating something new and giving them a safe and supportive environment to do so. I am completely against gross overtime, and work very closely with production in order to ensure that the entire team can have a healthy work life balance.

I hope this finds you well during these difficult times and I appreciate that you’d read this far 😊

Kindly,

Christopher ‘cignet’ James

Some of my interests...
Design Talks
Sharing knowledge is incredibly important to me. Over the years I have had opportunities to talk at colleges and a couple of industry events, including being a speaker at the 2010 Montreal International Games Summit.

Though it's been a few years since I've given a presentation, I'm always open to the opportunity.
Video Games
Ever since I was 4 I have been enthralled by games. We owned an Intellivision and I've had almost every major system since.

There's something about exploring vast creative worlds, mastering control mechanics, and thoughtfully solving complex systems that has always amazed me.
Climbing, Biking, Snowboarding, and Rollerblading, Swimming, Tennis, Squash, Rowing, etc...
That's a catch-all title ;)

Generally I enjoy doing a variety of outdoor activities to try and keep healthy while exploring the environment and world around me.
League of Legends
Since Season 03 I have been next to obsessed with League, though it took me many years to queue into ranked play.

What I love most about this game is it's esports scene, both with the fantastic community and the professional production quality of the regional and global broadcasts.

I've had the fortune to attend a few live NA and EU events, including the 2019 World Championship game in Paris, France when FPX lifted the Summoner's Cup by dominating G2 with a 3-0 set.

For many years I played in the ADC role, maining Kai'Sa, Xayah, Lucian, and Varus.

In Season 12 I switched to the Mid position, usually playing Kai'Sa, Akali, Azir, Taliyah, or Twisted Fate
Analogue Games
Who calls them that?

Anyways, I mean Board Games, Card Games, PNP RPG's, Billiard, Chess, Shuffle Boards, etc... horse shoe tosses?

Games that bring people together to have fun and engaging moments are important to me. Even though my career has centered around creating digital games, interacting with people around a table will always have a bit of magic to it.

It's not about being competitive or winning, but spending the time and generating good lasting memories with friends and family.

Though if the playing field is equal and we're all trying to win - well, GLHF ;)
(I'm looking at you fellow players of Avalon)
Painting Minis
This is something I have only recently started (2021), but as a hobby to pass some of the time during the COVID pandemic I started to paint Warhammer miniatures (Nighthaunt).
Photography & Screenshots
Since my photography classes in College (photography, b&w processing, colour theory + processing), I have cared to taking a keen eye to the world around me - both real life and in the games I play - and trying to capture remarkable moments.
